Martha's Vineyard

Martha's Vineyard is a place where most people think of vacation and fun during the summer. It is important to remember the history too. The original inhabitants that lived on the island were the Wampanoag Indians. Twenty years after the Pilgrims came to the New World, in 1642, Martha's Vineyard was inhabited with approximately 1,500 Wampanoags. Unfortunately, by 1764, only 313 survived.
