Hetty Green

Henrietta aka Hetty Green (1834-1916) born in New Bedford, MA.  An important person to refelect on during this hard times in the financial sector and economy.  As we see so many people that over spent more than what they could actually afford.  People taking out second mortages on their homes to go on vacations, buying accessories, Coach purses, Escalades, high end cosmetics and the list goes on.  Hetty comes to mind to most as the stingiest and biggest miser in the world.  When she died she left $100 to $200 million to her two children.

During her lifetime she encouraged others that wanted her secret to save and become rich was not to spend money on things they don't need.  She also brought her lunch to work.  Some days her lunch would be oatmeal.  Another way she saved her money was by taking public transportation.  Rather than buying her own stage coach, she used public transportation.  Hetty also bought stocks when everyone else was welling and Wall Street was in panic mode.  Buying low end buildings that would sit until a developer wanted to buy them from her and develop the community.

Evidentally the Witch of Wall Street as able to stay on the top of her game.

What does a wampum bead look like?

As posted on an earlier post, wampum was produced by the Indian women by intense eight hours of work where they drilled holes into the shell and made them into a one quarter of an inch cylinder bead.

To view what a single wampum bead looks like in today's market, see the Mohican Press website for shapes, sizes, and prices. Keeping in mind that the original Indian women did this process by hand and not by machine.
